The Big Ridge FCE Club of Union County had an eventful month in September. To kick off the month, a regular meeting was held to elect officers. Congrats and thank you to those who are serving to keep the club doing great work in our community.
In September, members also attended “FCE Day at Tennessee Valley Fair” where they got to reconnect with members across the region. Neal Denton spoke all about beef. Members learned a lot and even won a few prizes in the trivia contest!
To round out the month, several members of the club attended the FCE fall conference in Athens, Tennessee, for a wonderful lunch and program. We learned all about reading to youth in our community, including the benefits and way to engage students. We plan to use this information in the coming year to celebrate world reading day.
Part of FCE fall conference is an opportunity to exhibit cultural arts entries that club members have made. We are so proud that Carol Pratt placed first in the decorative painting category and Linda Effler placed first in the applique quilt category. Well done!
Learning and service are important parts of FCE, but we have a lot of fun along the way.
We would like to invite you to our next meeting. In October, we will be going to Carver’s Apple Orchard in Cosby. On October 20, we will be meeting at Milan Baptist Church in Maynardville at 9 a.m. From there, we will ride together as a group to Cosby for apples, lunch and lots of fun.
If you are interested in going, please call Alyshia Victoria at the UT Extension Office at 865-992-8038.
November and December have fun activities in store here in Union County. Please join us anytime.
