The Big Ridge FCE (Family Community Education) Club gives back to the non-profits in the community that its members belong to and support by volunteering.
The Club has been in existence for many, many years. Our group has raised funds at the Big Ridge Bluegrass Festival since its existence. One of our past members (Fontella Suffridge) was secretary at the park for many years and volunteered our club to sell food and refreshments. We were there for about 30-plus years, and because it was a taxing job, we decided to pass it along. So Rodney Malone with his catering business ((Hawg Wild) stepped up to fill the void.
The FCE club previously used its profits to plant flowers at the park. Now, the club takes the proceeds and donates them to non-profit organizations where our club members volunteer in Union County. The club members donate all the homemade baked goods, drinks and popcorn. This year, new member Glenda Cooke donated three stack cakes which were a big hit. We’d like to thank all those who support us at the Big Ridge Bluegrass Festival every year and request those slices of pie or other baked goods. The club meets monthly. For more information, call UT Extension at 865-992-8038 for the date and location.
