Baseball Migraines and Chiropractic Care
Brandon Drury plays baseball for the Toronto Blue Jays, having been traded in July 2018 from the New York Yankees. Prior to his stint with the Yankees, he had been afflicted for years with migraines and blurred vision. He finally told the Yankees and their medical team identified the issue—a nerve between the back of Drury’s head and neck—and established a plan to manage it.
Drury soon began seeing benefits from his ongoing treatment with Dr. Gil Chimes, the club’s consulting sports medicine chiropractor. Over the course of a few months, he became physically ready to play third base in the big leagues again.
Migraines tend to affect people between the ages of 15-49, and thus strike at a time when people are at their most productive, impacting their careers, family life, and with it, the wider economy. Despite their prevalence and debilitating effects, public and professional understanding of migraine headaches is generally poor and the condition is often badly managed by the health system. Migraines are normally treatable if managed correctly.
Chiropractic care has been a vital component of helping many of the biggest stars in Major League Baseball (MLB) to play and avoid injuries, but also enhance their performance throughout the long and tedious MLB season. Currently, 28 teams in MLB utilize chiropractic services at home during the season as well as during spring training. Not only do the large majority of MLB teams recognize chiropractic, but many teams in Minor League Baseball (MILB) do, as well.
If professional baseball teams realize the benefit of regular chiropractic care, surely we should also appreciate what it can do for us as we navigate the repetitive stresses in our daily lives.
