Another opinion about genetically modified crops

"GMOs are perfectly healthy" was the last sentence on the opinion on GMOs in the October 2019 Historic Union County.
Really? Where is the data? Where are the independent, peer-reviewed, long-term studies that support this statement? There are none, that is why you can't find them!
GMOs do allow for larger production, but at what cost? Do you also understand that the GMO seeds are modified so that the plant that grows is resistant to herbicides, such as glyphosate (Roundup), therefore allowing the crop to be sprayed with glyphosate to kill the weeds, but not the crop. That means that glyphosate is getting into our food supply.
The manufacturer of these GMOs will tell you that they are perfectly healthy for consumption, but isn't that what the tobacco manufacturers also told us? There is a reason that the manufacturers of these GMOs do not allow for any independent, peer-reviewed, long-term studies of their products.
Until there is evidence that supports that GMOs are safe, I intend to continue to purchase non-GMO products, and err on the side of caution.
Here's just one number to mull over: Hospitalizations from food allergies increased 265% between 1997 and 2003. These six years correspond with the introduction of virtually all Genetically Modified Foods. For more information and to raise awareness on GMOs and glyphosate, please investigate further and look at the numbers and make your own conclusion.
