4-H at the Fair

4-H at the Fair

It is tradition to ring in autumn with trips to the fairs across East Tennessee, especially as a 4-Her. This year the Tennessee Valley Fair was held from September 7-16 with much participation from Union County 4-Her’s. On Thursday the 13th, Union County sent two teams of 4-H members to the Kerr Building to bake biscuits for fair goers all the whilst learning themselves, cooking together, kitchen safety, mannerisms, and more. The teams were assisted by volunteer leader Elizabeth Tindell as well as a few parents who stayed to help as needed. Team one consisted of Gracie, Jonathan, and Jeremiah Tindell, Joannah and Jeremiah Kadron, and Chloe Bowman. Team two had teammates Raley Graves, Ashlyn Tiller, Morgan Whitaker, Jadazia and Wynter Dyer, and TL and Jordan Ellison. The students worked well together and baked lots of delicious clover shaped biscuits that were enjoyed by all. Thanks to Mrs. Debby Morgan for holding a biscuit making workshop prior to the event to get the kids some practice and excitement about the baking. Along with the bread baking contest, Chloe Bowman also entered several distinctive photos into the Eastern Region Photography Contest. On Judging Day at the Fair, Union County had a Consumer Decision Making Team compete. The team was made up of 4-Her’s Allyson Hanna, Jeremiah Kadron, and Kaleb Hanna. Congratulations on the team for ranking ninth. Tuesday was FCE Day at the fair. Union County had much participation and won prize for most members present, great representation! Overall the fair was packed with exciting events and Union County was represented well by some active 4-Her’s, parents, volunteers, and FCE members.
