Union County 4-H meets monthly with youth in classrooms providing a lesson as well as announcements and upcoming 4-H contest information. During November and December, students are presented with opportunities to participate in the public speaking and poster contests. Many students research, prepare, and practice speeches for their respective in class competitions. At the time of their final presentations, the top speeches are awarded a blue ribbon and participants are invited to speak at the countywide event, held annually in January. At this event, students compete, by grade, in front of a panel of judges, parents, and peers. First place winners in each grade are proudly invited to the sub-regional contest. Also at this time, the children are creating beautiful, creative posters for the in-school 4-H poster contest. The posters are judged at each school and outstanding posters are chosen to move forward to the county contest. These winners are also awarded at the countywide competition in January, alongside public speaking. The top ten are chosen with a first, second, and third place advancing to the state contest. Congratulations to all participants in this year’s contests. There were so many outstanding speeches and ravishing posters. Much appreciation goes out to the time spent by the many outstanding judges, volunteers, guest speakers, parents, teachers and especially the 4-Hers themselves.
