2023 Heritage Festival art evokes fond memories of Grandma
Stitched With Love, Remembering Grandma by Betty Bullen
"Stitched with Love, Remembering Grandma" is the 2023 Union County Heritage Festival Limited Edition Collectible Print. The inspiration for the 2023 Limited Edition Collectible Print by noted artist Betty Bullen was her own memories of grandmothers who lovingly stitched quilts for their grandchildren. This year’s festival theme is “Going to Grandma’s.”
Visiting Grandma’s almost always evoked excitement in a child's heart. Even as adults, remembering grandma causes a variety of memories. Whether your grandma stitched quilts or sewed your outfits, she usually had a pastime that called for using her hands.
Maybe your grandma knitted that warm scarf that you remember or maybe she made the best hot chocolate on a cold winter’s day.
For some, the memory is the smell of biscuits baking or the pie in the oven at Thanksgiving. For others it was the trip to the farmers market or shopping at the mall that brings fond memories. Maybe she even took you on a vacation to Disney World or to visit another relative. Perhaps she read you a book or told you a story that introduced you to another world of sights and insights.
The “Stitched with Love, Remembering Grandma” collectible print is available on festival day, October 7, at the Information Booth #102 in Wilson Park.
After the festival, the print can be purchased at The Winery at Seven Springs Farm.
The cost is $20 with all proceeds going to help fund next year’s festival. Betty and Stan Bullen graciously donate the cost to produce the painting and the numbered prints each year to help ensure the festival continues.
Whatever memories you have of your grandma or a beloved older female who brought you fond memories, we would like for you to share them with the festival committee of the Union County Heritage Festival. Please send your memory and a photo of your special grandma to UCHF2005@gmail.com. We plan to share these memories once or twice a month in a feature article in Historic Union County.
You can even include some Grandpa memories because next year’s theme will feature Grandpa. We will read every submission and share as many as we can.
