A “Corny” Farmer’s Market
Union County Mayor Jason Bailey and Maynardville Mayor Ty Blakely, along with Cub Scout Pack 922, stand at attention as Keaton Roach opens the Farmer's Market Corn Festival August 7 with our National Anthem.
The Union County Farmers Market on Saturday, August 7 was all about the corn. The Annual Youth and Corn Festival took place at Wilson Park and included competition and activities for the entire family.
After a welcome from Union County Mayor Jason Bailey, Keaton Roach opened the festival with his beautiful a cappella version of the Star Spangled Banner, then led the crowd in The Pledge of Allegiance.
The Corniest Joke Contest brought a few laughs, Cornhole was available for family play, and the Children’s Tent had crafts, activities, and StoryThyme every hour. And of course, there were food trucks, and CORN!
Guests to the market enjoyed viewing antique corn growing and grinding equipment while learning about the history of corn and its importance to our community throughout the years.
Not into corn? There was also plenty of farm fresh produce, meat, honey, fresh flowers, dairy products, and handmade crafts as usual. New vendors are still welcome to join the weekly market.
