Woodmen Help Students at HMMS
Our schools make use of gifts and resources from many areas to keep students supplied with necessities. On Thursday, March 21, Woodmen Lodge 1072 member and Vice President Keith Kail came to Horace Maynard Middle School with gifts in hand.
Kail presented a new American flag for the outdoor flagpole and fifteen backpacks along with various school supplies. Members of Lodge 1072 purchased and donated the backpacks and school supplies for students in need as one of the lodge’s community service projects.
In appreciation of teachers and staff at HMMS, Kail, along with Woodmen Lodge 1072, also provided the teachers and staff with bagels and coffee from Panera.
“WoodmenLife has been doing community outreach since 1890. Back then we called it fraternalism,” said Kail. “Chapter 1072 likes to support local schools and church food pantries. This year we decided to provide a teacher appreciation breakfast along with the back packs loaded with school supplies for children in need. It’s projects like this that make me proud to represent such a fine organization. It’s through our members we are able to do outreach that make our community a better place to live.”
Woodmen lodges and their members have quarterly community service projects voted on by the lodge members. Lodge 1072 based in Fountain City voted to purchase fifteen backpacks from lodge funds for HMMS and members brought in school supplies at their last lodge meeting to add to the backpack donation. Woodmen regularly donates American flags to businesses, fire halls and schools.
