UT Veterinary Medical Center To Operate at Reduced Capacity

The University of Tennessee Veterinary Medical Center will operate at severely reduced patient capacity from Saturday, December 16, 2023 until Wednesday January 3, 2024. During this time, the building’s electrical power infrastructure will be upgraded. The upgrade requires turning off electrical power to large portions of the veterinary medical center.

The outage will affect

lighting
heating
ventilation
air conditioning
electrical power to hospital equipment
Equipment affected includes

diagnostic imaging, such as radiographs, CT and MRI
laboratory instruments
necropsy
other equipment throughout the hospital.
This work is necessary but will substantially limit the number and type of patients we are able to manage during this period. We feel it is important to keep our hospital open to serve our clients, patients, and referring veterinarians but many of our services will not be able to see routine appointments during this time.

Our Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care director has compiled a list of regional veterinary emergency centers found at https://vetmed.tennessee.edu/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/Power-Outage-Re…

Our Necropsy Service will not be able to process biopsies received between December 22 – January 1. They will also not be able to accept necropsies from December 26 – January 3.
