Thanksgiving Writing Contest Now Open

Whether your memories of Thanksgiving involve a happy group of family and friends gathered around a table overflowing with food, an afternoon spent snacking while watching your favorite football team, volunteering at a homeless shelter, or something entirely different, HUC wants to hear from you.
Historic Union County newspaper is sponsoring our first ever Thanksgiving writing contest. We want your favorite memory, worst memory, strangest happening, or most heartwarming story for our Thanksgiving week publication.

RULES:
No previously published stories.
Submissions must be original to the author.
Submissions must be between 100-500 words.
No age requirement.
Your story MUST pertain to the Thanksgiving holiday.
A photo would be great to go along with the story, but is not required.
The author may submit a photo of themselves if they so choose.
Absolute deadline – November 8. No exceptions due to print date.

The HUC staff will judge all submissions and choose the top five. Those will be printed in our November 20th edition. From those top five, one story will be chosen as the best submission. The winner will be announced in the November 20 edition with their story receiving top billing as well as an award for the author (TBD).
Please send your submission before November 8, 2023 in a word doc or pdf to: cyntaylor2016@gmail.com
