Schumer Shutdown Turns into a Short Vacation
It looks like the government shutdown, otherwise known as Schumer Shutdown, has come to an end (for now); however, Congress has only temporarily fixed the budget until February 8, 2018. The American people could potentially watch our military, border patrol agents, national park rangers and other government workers be auctioned off AGAIN so the Democrats can force tax payers to support illegal immigrants and their children. Why do the Democrats care so much about granting illegal immigrants amnesty, and what needs to happen next month to avoid another possible shutdown?
Before anyone gets a warm and fuzzy feeling for the Democrats and their big heart, let’s look at some facts. First, the Schumer Shutdown was nothing more than a ploy by the Democrats to turn the American people’s attention away from Trump’s successful, non-bipartisan tax plan. The tax plan caused Walmart to increase wages and bonuses, Apple to bring billions of dollars in plants back to America, Southwest Airlines to increase bonuses and will leave extra money in millions of middle-class workers’ pockets. The Democrats can claim none of the success, present or future. Second, it is imperative that Democrats keep a population dependent on government handouts, thus ensuring votes for their party; granting amnesty for illegal immigrants could meet this demand.
President Trump and our Republican Congressional leaders did a good job ending the filibuster (A method Senators use to stall a vote) and therefore ending the shutdown. They did it by doing something that many of their constituents have been asking them to do for years, and that is to remain strong. Republicans have grown weak throughout the past decade by compromising too many times. Although Senator Chuck Schumer thought he could push the Republicans like days of old, President Trump, Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan called the bluff. Democrats quickly ascertained that the American people were unhappy with the willingness to sacrifice so many hard workers’ earnings for the sake of illegal immigrants, and from Friday to Monday their tune drastically changed.
The crisis has been averted for the next couple of weeks. Ideally, President Trump and Congress will take this time to create a longer lasting budget deal that will include the things President Trump has promised (For example, the border wall) without compromising on the things he ran against (Amnesty for illegal immigrants). America is an amazing land of great opportunities, but it should be utilized by legal immigrants.
