Plainview honors its founders, uses grant funds
Plainview Mayor Gary Chandler displays the Founders Plaque.
At the December meeting of the Plainview Board of Aldermen, Mayor Gary Chandler presented a plaque to be hung on the community building wall that honors the founders of the City of Plainview. The plaque pays tribute to Albert Thomas, Billy Sexton, Janie Frazier, Jeff Collins, John Seltzer, Judy Brantley, Ruth Collins, Terry Hill, Thomas Keaton, Walter (Junior) Wolfe, Sr., and Wayne Roach for their leadership given to the founding of Plainview. Plainview became a city on September 11, 1992.
In other business items, Plainview will use its American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to allow the City of Luttrell to make sewer improvements in Plainview. Chief of Police Brandon Ford recommended and the board approved a policy that clarifies leave and comp time for officers. The new fence has been installed, the HVAC has been replaced, the foundation has been repaired, and the new flagpole will be installed when the weather permits.
LVFD Chief Brad Woods reported that the fire department has added two junior members and several new adult trainees. The department has improved its ISO rating to a solid 5.
The ARPA money is funding new turnout gear and two thermal imaging cameras. Chief Woods cautioned citizens to regularly clean dryer vents to prevent electrical fires. Also, he noted that smoke detector batteries should be replaced annually. He also warned that kerosene heaters need lots of ventilation and pose a danger of carbon monoxide. Finally, he reminded citizens to keep space heaters away from curtains, furniture, and walls.
Citizens of Plainview and Luttrell can receive free smoke alarms through a state grant by calling Luttrell School and leaving your name, address, and phone number.
The next meeting of the Plainview Board of Aldermen will be on Tuesday, January 9, at 7 p.m. The planning commission meets the same day at 6:30 p.m.
