Plainview changes permit fee for manufactured homes
Stewart Skeen discusses a plat to combine property on Atkins Road with Mayor Lynn Beeler and Chairman Walter Stone.
At their meeting in August, the Plainview Planning Commission recommended and the Plainview Board of Aldermen approved a resolution to change the building permit fee for manufactured and modular homes. Manufactured and modular homes, according to the state, had building requirements upgraded before 2020. These upgrades made the construction of manufactured and modular homes equal to "stick built" homes. So Plainview will charge the same 50 cents per square foot fees for double wide, manufactured, modular and stick built homes. Homes will have three inspections during construction.
Stewart Skeen, Codes Enforcement Officer, notified property owners at 115 Kelly Drive, 308 East Mountain View Road and 312 East Mountain View Road that they were in violation of Ordinance 38.1 that addresses maintenance of property. He noted that the uninhabited structure at 2112 Tazewell Pike had been demolished and the rubble removed. Skeen also reported that property on Atkins Road was being combined under the same owner, Terry Atkins. He commented that property at the corner of Corryton Road and Tazewell Pike was being subdivided into sections above 5 acres which did not need a resolution.
Skeen said that he informed the owner of 2112 Tazewell Pike that if he wished to build a duplex on the property, the property would need to be rezoned. He also reported that two more houses and a storage building were being built in Plainview. Finally, he reported the State Fire Marshall Audit was completed with no findings.
Mayor Beeler explained that term limits need to be stated for the appointed Planning Commission Members. Shirley Keaton, secretary, will serve a one year term. Chairman Walter Stone will serve for two years and Josh Collins, the Board of Alderman representative, will serve for the remainder of his elected term until 2026. The chairman and vice chairman will be elected each August.
