Firefighters organize Plainview Station

New training room at the Plainview Station

Luttrell Volunteer Firefighters have been organizing their new facilities at the Plainview Station. With money donated by the City of Plainview, the firefighters have purchased office equipment, a large screen television, tables, chairs, and a refrigerator. The office is still a work in progress but the necessities of a desk, computer and a hide-a-bed sofa are in place. The sofa was donated and will enable a firefighter to man the station 24 hours during an extreme emergency.
When the internet is connected, firefighters will be able to utilize their new training room complete with comfortable seating donated by Josh Collins of Collins Insurance. The area has two bays. One is a double bay that can accommodate two modern fire engines. The large bay enabled LVFD to house one of the Sharps Chapel engines over the winter so SCVFD did not have to have an engine stored outside. The smaller bay holds the Plainview pumper.
Private bathroom facilities with a shower in progress are included. According to Chief Brad Woods, the facility will allow firefighters to not only stay current on training but also gives the opportunity to update and properly store equipment. Some of the firefighting equipment was purchased through a Union County Community Block Development Grant. LVFD is awaiting approval of a FEMA Grant to purchase a new engine. With all of these upgrades, Chief Woods hopes to see the ISO rating improve, too.
