Union County Business & Professional Association Member Meeting Minutes

February 12, 2019

Meeting called to order by President, Martin Shafer at approximately 12:05 at Hardees

Treasurer's Report and Membership Report was not available, due to Treasurer, Gail Corum being absent

Committee Reports: KUCB: Next litter pickup will be on Saturday, March 16. Meet at 10:00 at Commercial Bank, Per Marilyn

Scholarship Committee: Last meeting was Monday, 2-11-19, to finalize scholarships, Per Martin Scholarship Golf Classic: Date will be May 4, at Three Ridges Golf Course. Details finalized by month end, per Marilyn

Grist Mill, Big Ridge Project: A committee is working to restore the Grist Mill to what it once was. The boy scouts are helping with this project. Plans are to have the Grist Mill up and running by fall. If up and running by fall, a fall festival may be possible, per Danny Cooke. Danny discussed Union County Opry, starting with the first of nine shows on April 20. The first two shows being the cheapest, with tickets being $10.00 each. These two shows will be a tribute show, with local musicians. Tickets may be purchased at Kitchen Designs, Jim Woods Music and online. Sponsors can purchase an ad in the souvenir booklet. Ad prices range from $25.00 to $750.00. Sponsors and donations will help support this project.

Nashville meeting with Senator, Nicely and Governor, Bill Lee, vocational training was a topic discussed. Hopefully, TCAT will be able to locate in the county in the future, Per Rick Riddle. The road project was also a discussion. Marilyn suggest that each member mail in a post card to the governor in support of the road project.
Business: No updated budget report available, due to Gail's absence
Membership: Any new member will be approved at the BOD meeting on 2-26. Possibly two new members, being Danny Cooke and Sidney Jessee Still seeking Chairperson Secretary position filled by Deb Barton

Presentation: Leanne Friebel, Work Based Learning Coordinator, introduced her son, Eli, who is currently in the marines. Eli will be leaving on 2-13-2019, heading back to California. Leanne being in this position for three years gave some history in her position. She started in this position with three students and three businesses. Now she has twenty business and seventy-five students. Her job requires Commercial Driver License in order to transport the students. She currently has students working at the nursing home in the Linen Department, Medical Records, Dietary, students working at Union Co-Op and at Food City. These job skills brings a vision to the students. Leanne believes placing each student in a job that the student is happy with. She carefully places each student in the right job. These are great student with many opportunities, if given the chance. Leanne has a passion for her students. She also, guides her student with the soft skills they need when applying for a job. Shannon with Union County Extension introduced her co-worker, Alicia Victoria. Alicia is from Clinton and is happy to be working in Union County. Per Shanta Collins, Small Business Expo will be March 23, 2019, with no cost to members. Mindy Grimm, Coordinator for ICARE announced Town Hall Meeting in March at Union County High School. Per Marilyn, Project Planning Meeting will be February 18, 2019 at 7:00 at the courthouse. This will be a joint meetjng with the School Board and County Commissioners. This meeting will discuss investing the county funds.
