BOE approves finalists for director

Dr. Tammy Grissom shares the TSBA recommendations for director with the Union County Board of Education.

The Union County Board of Education approved two candidates for consideration for director as recommended by the Tennessee School Board Association in a special called meeting on Monday, December 5, 2022. Ten applicants were considered by TSBA and the two recommended were Angela Messer, a Knox County Supervisor of Music, who will interview on Wednesday, December 14, and Gregory Clay, a Grainger County Principal, who will interview on Monday, December 19.

On both days principals and central office staff will have a question and answer session at 2:00. Then on both days teachers, other employees, and other stakeholders will have a question and answer session at 4:00. The formal interview by the board of education will be at 6:00. On Tuesday, December 20, the Union County Board of Education plans to choose the new director. All meetings will occur in the Union County High School Library. Dr. Ronnie Mincey will moderate the respective sessions and introduce each applicant. The 6:00 meeting is open to the public but only board members will ask the questions.

Dr. Tammy Grissom, Executive Director of TSBA, reported that the other applicants included Linda Carr from North Carolina, Brian Morris from California, Kevin Simmons from Michigan, Kaycie Soderling from Indiana, and four from Tennessee: Tonya Childress, Vince Owens, Larrie Reynolds, and Christopher Davis.
